Tanning beds = arsenic and mustard gas.... sounds yummy

In the News:

Who doesn't like to have a little glow to their skin?? Some color to their face as the winter months approach? I am guilty of visiting the tanning beds a few times in my life. However, I can guarantee you I will be thinking twice about that before I head there in the future. Thanks to this article I recently read on msnbc.com:

Doctors have tried warning young people away from tanning beds for years, but their threats of skin cancer typically fell on deaf (but bronzed) ears. Until yesterday, that is, when it seems something clicked.

International cancer experts announced on Tuesday that they now consider tanning beds and ultraviolet radiation among the top cancer risks — about as lethal as arsenic, mustard gas or cigarettes. And this time, tanning junkies appear to be listening.

“I mean, even just the headline,” says Jill Brizzi, who’s 26 and lives in Charlotte, N.C. ‘Tanning beds as deadly as arsenic.’ Like, what? Isn’t that poison?”

So, how many of you "tanners" are actually going to think twice about going tanning again? Does this research and warning mean anything to you or will you call your local spa and make an appointment for next week? Do studies and comparisons such as these have any affect on your decision whether to lie in a tanning bed? I want to hear your opinions!

What is Nana's Box?

I recently have had quite a few people ask me what a Nana's Box is and what does the recipient do with the box. Since I've been MIA for a few months I thought I'd take the time to explain what everything is and how this idea came about.
A Nana's Box is a photo box containing personal photos, inspirational quotes, religious and famous sayings which patients can take with them to their treatment sessions. Each box is created for the individual recipient based upon requests and suggestions from their family and/or friends. The boxes are decorated by volunteers and members of Nana’s Box. Photos can be added to the box prior to the recipient receiving it or the recipient can add photos later once the box has been received.
Nana's Boxes are free of charge. (thanks to my sponsors and generous donors)

If you are interested in being a donor please go here.

Nana’s Box is a nonprofit service committed to providing a photo box to cancer patients who are undergoing treatment. Nana's Box offers this service to the individual patient with the help and support of families, and those volunteers interested in the emotional support of cancer patients.

I started this project in an effort to support and honor my mom as she battles Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. My mom lives in another state which has prevented me from assisting her while going through her treatment. In an effort to comfort her as much as possible I made her a box full of pictures that had quotes on the back in hopes that it would make her smile, laugh and most importantly feel loved and supported. She absolutely loved it!!! The happiness this box gave her made me anxious to make them for others. To read my story in its entirety click here.

New Boxes

I had the privilege of making this wonderful box for cancer fighter, Crystal, who I found via Spirit Jump, which is this wonderful non-profit org that I am proud to be apart of.
(inside)

Every box that I make is personalized and made specifically for that person in mind. This happens to be one of my more favorite ones I made. I love the way it turned out and I love the message on the front of the box.
This next box was ordered by a sister for her sister, Amanda. I loved the colors of the stars and the message of believe on the front.
